My Background

I became an English teacher after graduating from The University of Leeds with a first class degree in English Language and Literature in 2006. I taught English in both state and private schools over the next twelve years, including as a head of English, assistant head of sixth form, and whole school literacy coordinator.

I left full time teaching after having children, and in 2021 I set up Tadcaster English Tuition to use my knowledge and skills in a different way!

My Expertise

I have over a decade of experience in teaching English language and English literature at key stage three (years 7 - 9), GCSE and A Level.

I have worked as a GCSE examiner for AQA, the largest UK exam board, marking English literature exam responses, and marked independent school entrance exams for entry at 11+ and 13+.

Personalised Lessons

I offer bespoke one-to-one tutoring for your child in all aspects of English, including targeted exam preparation.

I start with an assessment of your child's strengths and areas for development. I then create a personalized program of study that will develop their key skills in reading comprehension, text analysis, grammatical accuracy and creative writing. My tuition will build your child's confidence and help them develop the skills they need to succeed.

At A Level I am also able to offer coursework-focused tuition sessions, within the guidance from the examination board.
